"Reach out and Read" is a nationally recognized program whereby children coming in for a well child visit recieve a book. Many children look forward to visits with their provider and are encouraged to make reading a part of their normal day.
On Friday, December 18, 2009, Mrs. Kathleen Farrell's kindergarten class at the Fisher School in Walpole, Mass. donated 170 books to the "Reach Out and Read Program" at Greater Roslindale Medical and Dental Center. There are 18 students in the class along with 2 teachers, Mrs. Farrell and her co-teacher, Mrs. Jackie Disharoon. Their theme was "Kids Helping Kids This Holiday Season" by collecting and donating new and "gently used" books. By doing this they gave the gift of reading to many children who come to the Center for their medical and dental care.
Mrs. Farrel is the daughter of Grace McMann, the Center's pediatric nurse practice for the last 28 years. Grace is also the "Reach out and Read Coordinator". We are always looking for donations of books and appreciate the effort that went into collecting for such a great cause. The children were excited and very happy to be sharing their love of books and reading with others" said Grace after being a guest in the classroom. Some parents expressed a desire to continue collecting more to send to GRMDC throughout the year.
Thank you Fisher School kindergarten class of Mrs. Farrell and Mrs. Disharoon!
